LANGUAGE BRIEFS
ABOUT
The Full Story
Once upon a time, I was an attorney. I mostly wrote briefs, opinions, and other legal documents. Even though I was primarily “behind the scenes” and rarely got to go to court myself, I loved my job, especially the writing.
After I had kids, I surprised myself by deciding to stay home with them until they started school, but found myself in a bit of a “brain fog.” When the COVID hit, we decided to homeschool my oldest for kindergarten. As part of his curriculum, I knew I wanted to start teaching him Spanish. When I started testing out apps for him, I stumbled upon Duolingo and got hooked. To my surprise, the brain fog went away after a few weeks of language learning.
This wasn’t my first experience with language learning. I fell in love with Spanish in middle school and minored in it in college. In fact, I loved languages so much that I took a Portuguese class just for fun my last semester. After college, life got in the way and languages fell to the wayside until I found my way back in search of a “pandemic hobby” that would keep me busy while we were all stuck at home.
I am, by no means, an advanced language learner or speaker, but I am a good note-taker. So think of what you find here as borrowing notes from a friend after you missed a day of class. I also love procrastinating by making schedules and study plans that I never follow longer than a week or two. I always look but can never find any online, so I’m going to remedy that for all you other passionate schedulers and listmakers.
If you like what you find, or wish there was something I haven’t covered, drop me a line and I’ll see what I can do.
